"The Special Forces nowadays with the development of the threat, with the technological development, with the development of risks and with the transformations underway are definitely a strategic and fundamental element for the security of the country and for international security". Thus the Chief of Defense Staff, General Claudio Graziano, on the sidelines of the final day of the "Dark Night" exercise conducted in Tuscany in recent days by the component for special operations.

"The special forces - underlined the general - are a structure precisely by definition interforces, we enter an area in which we speak of air domain, naval domain, terrestrial domain but under a single vision of commitment of personnel capable of acting for a long time and in which their action always translates into a strategic effect, therefore, particularly qualified personnel, particularly advanced systems but above all a concept and a philosophy of use that actually puts Italy among the nations that count in the world at this time ".

This exercise, as underlined by the commander of the Joint Forces Command for Special Forces Operations, General Nicola Zanelli, is the culmination of a year of joint work involving over 1000 men and women of the Italian Defense with the entire component for special operations .

The 9th Col Moschin Regiment of the Army, the Navy Raiders Operational Group (GOI), the 17 ° Stormo Incursori dell'Aria of the Air Force, the Carabinieri Special Intervention Group (GIS) participated in the training the 185th target acquisition regiment, the rangers of the 4th alpine parachute regiment and the San Marco regiment.

It was, as General Zanelli explained, to achieve rather complex objectives in which the fallout was at the strategic operational level, for this reason the forces for special operations have intervened and interoperability has been the correct answer to achieve the required objectives. .
