The Chief of Defense Staff visits the Operational Center of the Navy

Today General Enzo Vecciarelli, Chief of Defense Staff went to the Command in Chief of the Naval Squad (CINCNAV), where he was welcomed by the Chief of Staff of the Navy, squad admiral Valter Girardelli and by the commander in chief of the naval squad, squad admiral Donato Marzano. 

While staying at the Operations of the Navy Center (COMM), General Vecciarelli visited the Operations Center Aeronavale (from where you follow in real time all the air-sea naval operations), the Operational monitoring station Marittima (where information is received from coastal surveillance radars), the room of the Virtual Regional Maritime Traffic Control (which receives merchant traffic data from a network of friendly and allied countries with special agreements) and the Inter-ministerial Integrated Maritime Surveillance Device(DIISM).

In this context, the Chief of Defense Staff was able to appreciate the complex process of collecting and exploiting information for the purpose of compiling the Maritime Situational Awareness (MSA) which, together with the presence and surveillance operations and the activities of Maritime Capacity Building, is a carrier of maritime security.

The set of information and data that are collected and exploited at the COMM ensures the full achievement of the fundamental task of defense of the country from the sea and on the sea, as well as the protection and safeguarding of national maritime interests.

During the visit, the general Vecciarelli was also updated on the operational activities in progress and had the opportunity to connect with the commands involved in operations at sea such as Ship Alpineflagship of the Mare Sicuro, Nave operation Rizzo headquarters of the command at sea of ​​EUNAVFORMED SOPHIA, Nave Lipari, support units in port in Tripoli and Nave Margottini, engaged in the Middle East and Arabian Sea campaign.
