It took place today at the headquarters of Interforze Summit Operational Command (COI) the final day and presentation to the government and military authorities who took part, with the results that emerged during the exercise.
Army Corps General Luciano Portolano, commander of the IOC, in his greeting, recalled the reasons for choosing the IOC as the location for the organization, management and conduct of an exercise of this level.
The IOC represents excellence in the field of Defense with its capabilities for planning, managing and conducting operations and missions, as well as exercises. The infrastructures represent the other element of uniqueness, totally suitable for carrying out classified activities.
The GALILEX exercise, which took place from 30 June to 9 July, had as its objective the presentation of the operational concept of the National Center for Regulated Public Service (CNP - PRS). The Center will be the organizational element responsible for managing the PRS Service for national users. Galileo PRS offers a secure and resilient positioning, navigation and synchronization service, provided by the European satellite system GALILEO and managed by the European Member States.
The exercise, led by presidency of the council - office of the military adviser and Galileo PRS authorities, directed by the Army Corps General Luigi Francesco De Leverano, and organized by the IOC, saw the participation of the representatives of the Security, Defense, Emergency Management and Critical Infrastructure Protection Sector, including the Honorable Bruno Tabacci , undersecretary of state to the presidency of the Draghi government council, with responsibility for economic planning and coordination; the prefect Franco Gabrielli, undersecretary of state to the presidency of the council of ministers who is the delegated authority for the security of the Republic; the Honorable Giorgio Mulè, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Defense; the engineer Luigi Pasquali, CEO of Telespazio and Coordinator of Space Activities of Leonardo Spa and Dr. Fabrizio Tosone, general manager of the Italian Space Agency.
The chosen exercise dynamics, "table top" (virtual) mode, allowed the representatives of the departments to know and share the uses of the PRS Service and understand the functionalities of the National PRS Center for operations support; from the use in operational theater aboard aircraft and naval units in a crisis scenario (simulated) in the Mediterranean, to anti-terrorism and control missions of the national territory, from search and rescue in areas affected by natural disasters, up to the management of events of electromagnetic disturbance (jamming / spoofing) conducted in conjunction with a cyberattack on critical infrastructure.
The PRS service in the manner in which it will be used by Italy will contribute to national security and defense; resilience of the state apparatus; the modernization of the state and the growth of the industrial sector in a highly competitive technological sector.
It represents a great opportunity for the country and at the same time a great challenge to be faced in an integrated, coordinated and synchronized way, one step at a time, in a sustainable way and without any delay.
