"Drugs and Italian soldiers in Afghanistan", the Defense denies

Regarding the service "Italian Drugs and the military in Afghanistan", aired in the episode of the 11 October of the "Hyenas", the General Staff of Defense categorically denies what reported, as the result of false information and false news that throw discredit on the Armed Forces .

In particular, what was declared by the alleged military is denied by the fact that all military personnel, in every category and grade, on mission and in the homeland, are obliged to undergo periodic checks aimed at identifying the possible use, even occasional, of narcotic substances. . Where there have been positive results, the Armed Forces, reaffirming their policy of "zero tolerance", have pursued the individual, immediately initiating all the foreseen judicial, disciplinary and health procedures. The affirmation of supposed connivance between fellow soldiers and commanders, moreover, is totally unfounded: in high risk operations, the security and safety of each military, in fact, depend on the clarity and prompt responsiveness of each colleague and, therefore, nobody tolerate the proximity of those with psychophysical abilities altered by the use of drugs.

The statements by the so-called Air Force Official, on the other hand, are disqualified from the mandatory checks at the departure and arrival airports, carried out by the Arma dei Carabinieri. These checks are aimed at verifying compliance with the security restrictions imposed by the international aviation authority and compliance with customs regulations. The validity of this system is also demonstrated by the discovery of small quantities of marijuana in the barrels of a dozen rifles. The fact was discovered thanks to these checks and denounced by the military authorities, but the author of the service, in reporting the event, has instrumentally omitted this information.

With regard to civilian personnel working within the national bases abroad, it is also subjected daily to stringent security checks, both at entry and exit, by military surveillance personnel and Carabinieri, as well as monitored from a health point of view: it is therefore highly unlikely that drugs can be easily introduced - as stated in the service - within our bases.

The Defense General Staff therefore reserves the right to take legal action against the author of the service, in order to safeguard the good name and image of all those soldiers who, despite countless difficulties and personal sacrifices, fulfill their daily routine. duty with honor and discipline, far from the limelight.
