The Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto, resolved yesterday to confer the role of President of the NATO Military Committee to Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone. The resolution follows the election, which took place on 16 September 2023, by the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the member countries of the Atlantic Alliance. To this end, Admiral Cavo Dragone was recalled to service until July 2027 and will officially assume the new role on 16 January 2025.
"Admiral Cavo Dragone will provide the Atlantic Alliance with his leadership and experience, the fruit of a long and prestigious military career, at a time of great international complexity. As Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, he will be responsible for translating political decisions into strategic-military activities that are fundamental to NATO's security and stability. Now more than ever, his leadership will be crucial to strengthening the collective capacity to address global challenges and promote peace. This appointment further consolidates Italy's leading role in the international context, confirming our country's commitment to ensuring international security and stability.".
