Personnel of the Armed Forces belonging to the Underwater Operating Group (GOS) of the Underwater Command and Incursors (COMSUBIN) of the Navy in synergy with the bomb squads of the 4th destroyer regiment of the Palermo Army have completed, in the waters off the coast of Cassibile SR), the removal and securing of twelve war remnants.

The bombs, dating back to the Second World War and of English manufacture, had been reported in recent days by private citizens and the prefecture of Syracuse had requested the intervention of the Defense. Operators of the GOS of the Navy secured the area, recovered the bombs located on a seabed between 2 and 5 meters and delivered them on the shore to colleagues of the Army, who made them shine in a quarry in an isolated area.

This intervention represents one of the many high-risk activities that the Armed Forces jointly carry out to safeguard public safety, carrying out delicate operations aimed at restoring the safety conditions of the territory, ports and coasts, at sea or in inland waters.

The divers of the Navy, the Artificieri of the Army and the Air Force represent national excellence in the field of ordnance clearance activities in their respective sector of competence and are able to conduct operations in any operational scenario, in the national territory as abroad.
