After more than three weeks of intense activity, the bomb squads of the Army of the 10th Genius Regiment of Cremona, have completed a demanding intervention for the reclamation of remnants of war on the Bergamo shores of Lake Iseo.

The delicate activity was carried out in synergy with the underwater divers of the SDAI (Antimezzi Insidiosi Defense Service) nucleus of the Navy who dealt with the underwater removal of numerous bombs lying on the bottom of the lake at a depth of 50 m. Over 300 war remnants have been unearthed including mortar bombs, rifle bombs, artillery grenades and anti-tank mines, many in excellent condition.

Once the bombs were brought back to the surface, the Army bomb squads took steps to secure any triggers, to check their state of wear in order to proceed with their destruction. The complex reclamation operations were carried out without particular inconvenience, thanks to the collaboration of all the institutional subjects involved leading the prefecture of Bergamo. In particular, it was very interesting to refine the coordination between bodies of different armed forces united in an activity in favor of the population.

The specialists of the 10th genius regiment of regulators, coordinated by the Alpine Troops Command, intervene almost daily in the reclamation of the war remnants on the entire territory of the Lombardy region. In the last year, the regiment has intervened about 110, for a total reclamation of over 3500 devices, including 5 high explosive potential aircraft bombs.
The Armed Force, in addition to its operational use in international missions, is able to intervene in cases of need for public safety and security, in the remediation of devices as well as in cases of public calamities. The Army is the only Armed Force in charge of training the bomb squads of all the Police Forces, the Armed Forces of the State and the other Armed Forces.
