The "Open Sea" exercise starts

The "Open Sea" begins today in the Central Mediterranean, an inter-force and international exercise which, conducted by the commander-in-chief of the naval team, represents the first annual complex training event of the Italian Navy, also with the participation of Army and Air Force, as well as naval units of the two permanent NATO groups and the European Maritime Force.

The aircraft carrier will operate at sea Cavour, with the AV8B aircraft loaded, ships and submarines of the Navy and 11 ships from Canada, France, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Turkey, framed in the permanent maritime groups of NATO and in the European Maritime Force. The Navy will also line up the Marine Brigade Saint Mark. Also aircraft will take part in the exercise Tornado, AMX, CAEW, Predator, KC 767 of the Italian Air Force as well as the Lagunari regiment, AW-129 helicopters, a command post of land artillery and a command post of anti-aircraft artillery of the Italian Army.

For ten days the men and women embarked on ships, submarines and flight crews will train in the main forms of struggle on the sea and at sea, such as the defense of ships in the anti-aircraft, anti-submarine and anti-ship struggle, the contrast to activities illegal on the sea, the management of crisis situations in environments with conventional and asymmetrical threat and the projection of an amphibious force from the sea to land.

The "Open Sea" also integrates the MINEX IT mine countermeasure exercise, involving the command of the Mine Countermeasure Forces of the Navy and the permanent force of NATO's mine countermeasures.

The "Open Sea" is an exercise aimed at the complex training of the Navy, in particular, and of the Armed Forces in general, aimed at maintaining high standards of interoperability and integration of national and NATO forces, for the common maritime safety of Italy, the European Union and the Atlantic Alliance.
