In recent days, at the Air Force Academy of Pozzuoli, the 30th edition of the Military Academies Tournament ended with the assignment of the "Challenge Cup" to the Military Academy of Modena.

The tournament, which began on March 14, saw the participation of about 250 athletes from the sports representatives of the top military training institutes - the Military Academy of Modena, the Naval Academy of Livorno, the Air Force Academy of Pozzuoli and the Academy of the Guardia di Finanza of Bergamo - who challenged each other in the five sports disciplines: athletics, swimming, shooting, volleyball and basketball.

With the victories achieved in basketball and volleyball, and second places in the remaining sports disciplines, the students of the Military Academy of Modena have conquered the coveted trophy.

Exceptional testimonial at the closing ceremony the president of CONI, dr. Giovanni Malagò, who congratulated all the athletes present, underlining how "Sport and the military world are two sides of the same coin".

The Tournament, established with the aim of stimulating the spirit of the body and consolidating the bonds of friendship between young people who, despite wearing uniforms of different colors, share the same ideals, began at the Military Academy of Modena in 1967.

Subsequently it was held, in rotation, at all the Military Academies, annually until 1974 and, thereafter, every two years. From the 17th edition, held at the Naval Academy of Livorno in 1993, the Challenge Cup was established, which is assigned to the winning Academy and kept by it until the next edition.

The 31st edition of the Tournament will take place in 2023 at the Accademia della Guardia di Finanza.
