World Obesity Day: an event to raise awareness of obesity at the command of Capodichino airport

Friday 4 March, at the Hall of the Aviators of the "U.Niutta" Military Airport of Naples, the conference "Get up in Flight" was held organized on the occasion of the world day of obesity, the World Obesity Day, promoted by World Health Organization and announced by all the most important international scientific societies relating to this pathology.

The event, promoted in synergy with the UNESCO chair of the Federico II University of Naples "Education for Health and Sustainable Development", was chaired by the commander of the Neapolitan airport Colonel Vittorio Vicari, and saw the participation of medical authorities and specialists in the sector, as well as a representation of military and civilian personnel from the airport grounds.

During the conference, the main reasons that cause the overweight and obesity they represent, according to theWorld Health Organization (WHO), the largest non-infectious epidemic of the third millennium, affecting half of adults and nearly a third of children. "Our Command operates in an area with a high population density and therefore the problems related to obesity, the health of individuals and their families have a significant impact, not only on the local health system but also on the entire social fabric" These are the words of the commander of the Capodichino airport, Colonel Vittorio Vicari, who then added: "With the intention of offering our contribution to the city, in line with the institutional tasks of this State Airport that I have the honor of directing, also attributable to the protection of Health, guaranteed through logistical-operational support for flights of health emergency, we enthusiastically welcomed the proposal of Professor Annamaria Colao, holder of the UNESCO Chair of the Federico II University of Naples - 'Health Education and Sustainable Development' and of the journalist Chiara Del Gaudio, well-known face for Health of the RAI 'UNOMATTINA program ', of a scientific-popular day with the aim of making everyone, adults and children aware of the importance of adopting correct lifestyles ".

Professor Colao then added: “Lifestyle, eating well, sleeping adequately, physical exercise are the essential elements to reduce the impact that diseases have on our population which unfortunately continues to have too high percentages of obese and very obese. Obesity appears to be a problem that mainly affects disadvantaged social categories, i.e. the segment of the population with lower levels of education and greater difficulties in accessing medical assistance, due to low income levels but still little yes. ago in this direction. It is for this reason that awareness days like these, which also see the participation of representatives of the institutions, constitute not only an important dissemination moment but also an opportunity for discussion in order to improve the health of individuals and of our city ".
