A KC-767A transport aircraft of the 14th wing of Pratica di Mare completed the transfer in biocontainment of a nun of Italian citizenship from the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country in which she worked as a missionary, in the afternoon of today, Monday 31 August.

The transfer was requested to Summit Situation Room of the Air Force by the presidency of the council of ministers, in turn consulted by the Italian embassy in Kinshasa.

The opportunity to carry out the biocontainment transport of the patient, suffering from respiratory difficulties, emerged following the coordination with the health authorities of the “Lazzaro Spallanzani” Hospital in Rome, where the patient was hospitalized.

The aircraft took off from Pratica di Mare airport shortly after midnight and landed in Goma, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, at 7:20 am, Italian time.

Once the patient embarked, the aircraft then took off again, arriving at the Pratica di Mare Airport at around 16.00 pm. From here, the woman was transferred via an Air Force ambulance, specially equipped to transport patients in biocontainment.
