The Air Traffic Control Area (CTR) of Frosinone is born

06/02/14

Yesterday, at the 72 ° Stormo Commander's Office, the Agreement Letter was signed which establishes the coordination procedures that must be applied between the 72 ° Stormo and the Rome Coordination and Control Service for the provision of the Services of Air Traffic Assistance (ATS Services).

These procedures are additional to those specified in national and international legislation.

The signing of the Letter of Agreement is the fundamental step for the transformation of the Zone reserved for military activities, called LI-R22, within which the aircraft of the 72 ° Stormo operate, into the Air Traffic Control Area (CTR-Control Traffic Region) . The operational start-up of this change is scheduled for next 10 February.

Raising the quality of Air Traffic Services provided at Frosinone Airport and revisiting ATS geography were goals that the 72 ° Stormo had been pursuing for several years. The innovative processes relating to the educational / training programs and the forthcoming assignment to the department of latest-generation helicopters have ensured that such implementations could no longer be put off. The 72 ° Stormo will have the existing LI-R22 regulated area at its disposal for instructional activities and testing of VFR helicopters and CTR for instrumental traffic protection.

The main mission of the 72 ° Stormo is to carry out the specific training for the release of helicopter activation for the pilots of the Air Force and the Military Helicopter Pilot License for the personnel of all the other Armed Forces and all the Armed Corps of the state. The Stormo also deals with the training of the Specialists who deal with the efficiency of the TH / OH 500B Helicopter, supplied to the Department, and of the Flight Instructors' qualification.

The Ciampino SCCAM is subordinated to the Poggio Renatico Air Operations Command, in turn an intermediate body of the Air Team Command, and is hierarchically superior to the SCCAM of Abano Terme, Brindisi and Milan Linate. The four bodies provide the Control Service for operational military air traffic and the management of air spaces reserved for it, in close coordination with the relevant civil aviation control agencies.
