The helicopter, intervened at the request of the Rescue Coordination Center of the Maltese Armed Forces, took off from Luqa airport, in the south east of the island, around 12, and reached the unit that was under way at about 95 miles east of Malta.
On reaching the ship, the crew dropped the two aerosoccorritori from the helicopter, which immobilized the patient on a special stretcher for recovery by means of a winch. Together with the patient, the doctor and a nurse of the ship were also sent for the necessary assistance during transportation to the Mater Dei Swatar hospital, where he was hospitalized.
The AM Section, equipped with HH-212 helicopters, is the only operational division of the Italian Collaboration Mission in the Defense Field, and provides both the training of the crew and the Search and Rescue Service (SAR). The flight activity is carried out with mixed Italian-Maltese crews, ensuring the SAR service 24 hours a day, even in adverse weather conditions.
