An exercise was held at the national contingent command Air/task force Kuwait (IT NCC AIR/TFA-K), aimed at perfecting the operational intervention techniques for the recovery of isolated personnel.
This was the first training activity of this type, carried out at night with the use of specific instruments and equipment, which saw the participation of the task group Phoenix, of the force protection unit and of the task group Typhoon.
In detail, a C-130J aircraft crash was simulated after take-off, which fell near the airport perimeter, within its own “Area of Responsibility” and in an environment infiltrated by the enemy. The remotely piloted aircraft, the MQ9-A “Predator B”, played the role of “On Scene Commander”, reaching the accident area to make contact with the isolated pilot escorted by a Air Mobility Protection Operator (AMPO), locate it and pass the information to the Joint Personnel Recovery Cell (JPRC) which arranged for the dispatch of a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) composed of a team of Air Riflemen for the extraction of the pilot.
Colonel Matteo Zuliani, commander of the IT NCC AIR/TFA-K, underlined how important it is to maintain the ability to plan and carry out emergency operations at the highest levels, in order to then react effectively in real scenarios.
