On Monday, December 30, a major joint exercise between the Italian Air Force and the United States Air Force took place in the skies over Kuwait, designed to test and refine the planning and execution capabilities of a joint military operation. Close Air Support (CAS). The event saw the involvement of Italian and US assets, underlining the effectiveness of the international anti-ISIS coalition, operating within the multinational mission “Prima Parthica/Ineherent Resolve”.
The exercise was carried out in two distinct phases: in the first, the Italian assets were used to escort a convoy headed towards a pre-established objective; the high technology used by the Italian assets in flight allowed for an increase in the understanding of the situation by the personnel employed on the ground, allowing them to identify the possible presence of asymmetric threats, thus guaranteeing freedom of movement (Freedom of Movement – FOM).
In the second phase, however, the Italian air forces provided direct support to the troops on the ground engaged in the capture of a High Valuable Individual (HVI) local. In this phase, the role of Italian assets proved crucial for the success of the mission, demonstrating the ability to provide rapid and precise responses to any threats.
At the end of the exercise, Colonel Matteo Zuliani, commander of theItalian National Contingent Command Air - Kuwait Air Task Force, expressed his appreciation for all the personnel employed, both Italian and American, praising their work. He then wanted to underline the importance of this event, which represented a fundamental test for the operational capabilities and integration of Italian assets with the allied forces. The sharing of information between air assets and ground forces proved, once again, essential to effectively prevent terrorist actions against the coalition.
THEItalian National Contingent Command Air/Kuwait Air Task Force It was established on 17 October 2014 and placed under the control – for national aspects – of the joint operational command.
