The Air Force and the ENAV have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to direct the realization of ever higher levels of collaboration and exchange of experiences, in order to support the highest standards of safety, efficiency, quality and sustainability of air navigation services .

The agreement, signed by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, General of the Air Team, Pasquale Preziosa, and by the Sole Director of ENAV, Massimo Garbini, provides for a synergetic effort on a series of specific common projects in the technological field, operating and regulatory.

The Memorandum of Understanding, which will last for 4 years, foresees in particular the establishment of an "AM-ENAV Cooperation Committee", to ensure the continuous monitoring and implementation of activities, and the signing of subsequent detailed technical agreements. , elaborated and signed from time to time, to coordinate common action lines on specific topics of interest, such as the application of projects deriving from the implementation of the Single European Sky (SES), the harmonization of technological adaptations, the use common infrastructure, the production of aeronautical cartography, the implementation of systems and procedures for flight safety (safety and security), the synergistic application of standards, procedures and training for air navigation services (SNA), the implementation of systems and procedures in order to favor the interoperability of systems and services, as well as the harmonization of systems for calculating terminal and route tariffs for the the achievement of the "performance" objectives imposed by the Single European Sky.

The General Precious, on the occasion of the signing of the agreement, declared: "The signing of this agreement constitutes an important step. It establishes the spirit of mutual trust that has always inspired collaboration between the Italian Air Force and ENAV in providing the country with increasingly safer and more efficient air navigation services and committing our successors to achieving increasingly ambitious results in civil and military air traffic management ".

"With this document - pointed out in turn Dr. Garbini - we are sure to create even more synergy to create a system and to better respond to the needs of those who fly in our airspace. The close collaboration between ENAV and the Air Force is, in fact, one of the fundamental pillars to support a sector that is going through a period of severe crisis ".

The Italian Air Force is responsible for providing air navigation services to at least 7 airports and 7 significant approach areas for civil air traffic, including international ones. Overall, the AOS manages about 25% of the national GAT and the airspace management is characterized by a civil-military cooperation model among the most advanced in Europe, with full application of the concept of "flexible use of airspace "and extreme ductility of the system at a tactical level. The total general traffic handled by the AOS, referring to the period 2012, is approximately 290.000 movements of civil aircraft and approximately 100.000 movements of military aircraft, for a total of 390000 movements, equal to approximately 20-25% of general air traffic Airspace, in fact, is no longer considered to be exclusively for military or civil use but assigned according to needs, according to a coordination model shared between the actors concerned which safeguards both the defense and security needs of the airspace and development of flight and civil transport.
