Incident between two Tornado: still no trace of missing

Investigations are underway by the helicopters of the Air Force of the four crew members of the two Tornado aircraft involved in the plane crash in the Marche, near Ascoli Piceno, yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 19 August.

The searches, continued throughout the night thanks to the use of helicopters equipped with special night visors, are conducted in close coordination with prefectures and local authorities.

In the early hours of the dawn, a remote-controlled Predator aircraft took off in research, taking off from the Amendola air base (Foggia), which is flying over the accident area to support the reconnaissance activity from above.

Ready to resume research also on the ground under the coordination of the prefecture and the local civil protection, an activity that is expected to start soon after the extinguishing of the last outbreaks of fire by the fire brigade in the wooded area where the 'impact.

On board the two fighters: on the first aircraft, the pilot captain Alessandro Dotto and the navigator captain Giuseppe Palminteri; on the second aircraft, the pilot captain Mariangela Valentini and the navigator captain Paolo Piero Franzese.

The impact of the aircraft took place in a wooded area and did not involve people on the ground. The area was promptly circumscribed by the police to allow the extinction of the fire developed on the spot. 

Already yesterday afternoon, the Air Force sent a team of Flight Safety experts to the scene of the incident for the first surveys, giving the go-ahead to the investigation through which a Technical Commission of the Armed Forces will shed light on accident dynamics.

Today, Wednesday 20 August, the chief of staff of the Air Force, Pasquale Preziosa aerial team general, will go to the place of the event.

The two Tornados had taken off from the permanent base of the 6 ° Stormo of Ghedi, in the province of Brescia, for a training mission planned and approved according to the rules of flight, preparatory to a NATO exercise scheduled for next autumn.
