On Thursday 3 was held on Friday 4 April, at the training areas of the 16 ° Stormo "Protection of Forces" of the Air Force of Martina Franca, the practical module of the course "Safe and Secure Approach to Field Environment Training" (SSAFE) which has aimed at training UN civilian personnel to operate safely in crisis areas.

The activity was organized by the security personnel of the United National Global Service Center (UNGSC) of Brindisi and made use of the training, logistical and operational components of the Stormo.

United Nations personnel, belonging to the most diverse professional qualifications (architects, engineers, administrative staff, etc.), attended this course with the aim of training themselves to face and react effectively to critical situations such as unauthorized checkpoints, kidnappings, conduct to be implemented in case of exfiltration of hostages, ambushes with the aid of explosive material, fire fights, movement with motor vehicles and more generally all potentially dangerous situations typical of the "hot" areas in which they will operate.

The complex exercise saw the participation of a logistics cell of the Stormo that provided to prepare the field (field tent assembly, heaters, meals supply, etc.), of the Air Fuciliere personnel who played the role of "friendly" forces and "enemies" as well as "the population" of an imaginary village. To these components were added the personnel of the Military and Civil Red Cross and that of the State Police who contributed to guaranteeing greater reality to the prepared exercise scenarios.

At the end of the exercise a meeting (de-briefing) was held with all the UN personnel participating in the exercise in which the security personnel of the Brindisi center highlighted all the positive and negative aspects of the actions taken to be with the students to face dangerous situations.

The course concluded with the delivery of the diplomas by the director of the United National Global Service Center, mr. Nicolas Von Ruben and the commander of the 16th Wing, Colonel Andrea Marradi. The director, having completed the delivery of the diplomas, expressed great enthusiasm for the activity carried out and expressed words of applause to all the personnel participating in the exercise. Thanking the commander and the staff of the 16 ° Stormo for the availability and professionalism shown in the organization and conduct of the event, it represented the intention to sponsor the activities carried out towards the top of the UN and continue to request the support of the 16th Wing for future training events.
