“It is important that niches of excellence like this reality are recognized and valued”. These are the words that the Chief of Staff of the Italian Air Force, Gen. Luca Goretti, addressed to the military and civilian personnel of the 2nd Vehicle Maintenance Group (GMA) during the exploratory visit to the organization, which took place on the morning of Tuesday 18 February.

Received by the commander of the 2nd GMA, Lt. Col. Riccardo Aloisi, after the briefing introductory course focused on the main maintenance activities and capabilities of the tactical vehicles with high operational value, generators and GSE/MHE (Ground Service Equipment / Material Handling Equipment) vehicles, the Chief of Staff continued with the visit to the institution's infrastructure.

The tour included the areas dedicated to the pre-testing of generators and those for painting vehicles, the generator workshop, the upholstery, sheet metal beating, carpentry, engine and gearbox departments of the mechanical workshop, as well as the warehouse of special Air Force material. During the tour, Gen. Goretti was able to observe the high professionalism of the technicians and specialists of the 2nd GMA.

There was also a meeting with 25 young volunteers in initial service, attending the course for the attribution of the “Auto Electrician” capacity, engaged in a practical and laboratory lesson on electronic components; they were invited to learn as much as possible from the high competence of their trainers.

At the “Gemini” pavilion, a meeting was held with military and civilian personnel, during which the Chief of Staff recognized the importance of adhesion logistics and the maintenance sector of vehicles, especially those with high operational value, whose readiness and efficiency is essential in operations outside national borders. He therefore praised the 2nd group for the silent and peculiar activity it carries out daily, for the extraordinary logistical capacity acquired and for the valuable service it offers in support of the activities of the operational departments of the Armed Forces and inter-force operations. “Today I was able to see first-hand how your professionalism, passion, competence, dedication and spirit of self-denial demonstrate a deep sense of belonging to the 2nd vehicle maintenance group”.

The visit was finally sealed by the signing of the Roll of Honour and the delivery of the crest of the department.
