Air Force helicopter retrieves two hikers in the middle of the night

An Air Force HH-139A helicopter intervened in the middle of the night between 28 and 29 February to recover two hikers, one of whom was seriously injured on the Marches side of Mount Carrier.

The military helicopter, one of the assets of the armed force always ready to take off on the national territory also for this type of intervention, immediately took off from the military base of Cervia - home of the 83rd SAR Center (Search and Rescue) of the 15th Wing - and reached the impervious mountain area where the two hikers were in a state of hypothermia.

In close collaboration with the men of the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps of Umbria and thanks to the use of the NVG (night vision goggles), the night vision devices supplied, the crew recovered the two hikers and transferred them at the Perugia hospital.

The night rescue was coordinated by the Italian Air Operation Center (IT-AOC), of the Air Operations Command which is responsible for supervising, coordinating and approving the daily operational flight activities for all the armed forces and armed forces of the state.

The 83rd Center is one of the Departments of the 15th Wing of the Air Force that guarantees, 24 hours a day, 24 days a year, seamlessly, the search and rescue of flight crews in difficulty, competing, in addition, to public utility activities such as the search for missing persons at sea or in the mountains, the emergency medical transport of life-threatening patients and the rescue of serious traumatized patients, also operating in marginal weather conditions.
