On the afternoon of Tuesday 16 March, the personnel of the 2nd wing picked up the second example SIRIUS, a new missile system recently assigned to the Rivolto air base, from the Leonardo industrial headquarters in Pratica di Mare (RM).

With the delivery of the second example of the SIRIUS system - the first was assigned in September 2020 in addition to the SPADA system already supplied, the Friulian air base further increases its air defense capabilities, further strengthening its role as a missile pole of Armed Forces.

The second SIRIUS will also allow Leonardo's technicians to carry out important software integration tests with the final configuration of the new missile air defense system called MAADS on the Rivolto airport grounds, in cooperation with the personnel of the Missile Group of the 2nd wing. (Medium Advanced Air Defense System).

The SIRIUS is a BMC4 (Battle Management Command, Control, Communication & Computer) system that integrates a modern concept radar and a hardware and software device that allows its use. It has outstanding mobility qualities thanks to its own dedicated vehicle that allows it to be moved very quickly. The functions of the system are multiple and can range from use as an integrated sensor in a surveillance architecture not only national but also at NATO level, to use as Command and Control of fire units located even at a significant distance from the system itself.
