The handover ceremony of the command of the experimental and standardization aerial shooting department (RSSTA) of Decimomannu took place on Tuesday 10 September between Colonel Giovanni Luca Nicoletti, incoming commander, and Colonel Federico Pellegrini, outgoing commander.
The handover, in the presence of the logistics commander Gen. sa Antonio Conserva and the commander of the Interforce Experimental and Training Range of Salto di Quirra (PISQ) and of the Air Force command for the autonomous region of Sardinia (CAMRAS) Gen. ba Davide Cipelletti, took place in front of a large audience and numerous military and political authorities of the Region, as well as military associations and mayors of the municipalities who, with their banners, wanted to represent the strong bond of the Air Force with the Sardinian territory.
Colonel Pellegrini, in his farewell speech, thanked the women and men of the RSSTA, for accompanying him with loyalty, passion and professionalism on the journey that led the department to become synonymous with excellence for the Armed Forces.
Colonel Nicoletti, at the same time, thanking the top brass of the Arma Azzurra for the prestigious assignment given to him, addressed the department's personnel, underlining that teamwork in synergy with the territory will be the founding basis of new and brilliant goals.
General Cipelletti, in his greeting speech, thanked the logistics command for the constant support and continuous attention paid to the Decimomannu Airport and to all the aeronautical realities of Sardinia, highlighting the task of the commanders who have succeeded one another, that of carrying the baton of a "never-ending relay", whose only goal is represented by the good of the Air Force and the Country.
General Conserva, in his closing speech, highlighted the recognition of the Italian Air Force “for the exceptional professionalism of the women and men who have served and continue to serve at the RSSTA, ensuring logistical-operational support to the International Flight Training School (IFTS), to the flight departments of the Air Force, of the other Armed Forces and of the Allied Countries deployed there”, reiterating how the indispensable collaboration between institutions can create the right synergies for the growth and development of the territory and of the whole of Sardinia. On this occasion, General Conserva awarded the department a Solemn Collective Commendation for the extraordinary results obtained in the recent and complex inter-force, international and inter-agency training activities.
The Decimomannu military airport, home to the experimental and standardization air shooting department (RSSTA), depends hierarchically on the Interforce Experimental and Training Polygon of Salto di Quirra (Perdasdefogu), and on the Air Force command for the autonomous region of Sardinia (CAMRAS) for the garrison functions and coordination with the other AM entities present on the island. The Alghero airport detachment, the Capo Frasca polygon, the Serrenti armament depot section and the weather observation units of Capo Bellavista, Capo Caccia and Capo Carbonara, located outside the Decimomannu airport area, depend on the RSSTA commander. The RSSTA coordinates, manages and controls the flight activities of the Air Force departments, of the other FFAA and of the Allied Countries, also guaranteeing their logistical/administrative support. It is the headquarters of the 80th center Search and Rescue and the 212GV/IFTS, excellence in the field of advanced flight training, the result of the partnership between the Italian Air Force and the Leonardo company.
