Cyber ​​Security: students of the aeronautical academy train together with Leonardo experts

The revival of the "CyberShield", an exercise event that Leonardo had already conducted starting from 2018 for some of his customers, ended in recent days. To the activity, aimed at increasing the sensitivity and knowledge in the field of cyber-security, a group of students from the Air Force Academy of Pozzuoli belonging to the Air Force Hackademy, a training unit of the AM Training Institute that is preparing to take part in the 2022 edition of the Cyber ​​Challenge, were also able to participate in stand-alone mode. organized by National Interuniversity Consortium for Informatics (CINI).

The activity was based on a series of challenges, presented in the usual CTF (capture the flag) mode, connected by a storyboard which allowed the students to use and experiment with the use of different types of techniques, with the aim of identifying and exploiting the vulnerabilities present in the systems. Participants were thus given the opportunity to gain experience in a fully realistic scenario that brings together the ICT and aerospace domains.

The exercise was structured in three phases: a kick-off meeting, held on 15 November last; a meeting of mid-term; the wrap up at the end of the activity.

During all stages of preparation, management and analysis of the event, the visitors of theAir Force Hackademy they had the opportunity to interact and receive “remote” support from the division's staff Cybersecurity of Leonardo, part of that network of stakeholders who have supported for more than a year, with their respective skills, the activities of the training units set up in the Aeronautical Academy to support visitors in the growth of areas of specific interest of the Armed Force: from cyber-security, in fact, to the study of Unmanned Aircraft System, to studies related to the aerospace domain and to the emergency medicine sector.

Each participant was assigned an overall score whose value was weighted according to time, the difficulty of each question and the number of suggestions used in the contest. A course officer ranked first Zodiac V.
