In recent days, the health personnel of the 3rd wing provided support to the volunteers of the Italian Red Cross (CRI) of Verona as part of the screening activity carried out on the personnel of the firefighters, local police and financial police of the respective commands of the province of Verona.

In particular, on the days of 4, 6 and 11 May, military doctors and nurses from the Villafranca base joined the colleagues of the provincial committee of the CRI to implement the epidemiological monitoring activity on the Covid-19 contagion in favor of the staff who carried out public service activities in order to verify the possible presence of antibodies.

In the three days of activity, over 500 serological tests were administered in the two locations identified by the CRI, namely the barracks of the provincial fire brigade command of Verona and the headquarters of the provincial command of the financial police.

As highlighted by the president of the provincial committee of the Red Cross of Verona, Alessandro Ortombina, "this activity strengthens the existing collaboration relationships between the 3rd wing and the local committee of the CRI, which over the years have allowed a fruitful exchange of experiences and skills. In this specific case, the precious support of the doctors and nurses of the 3rd wing it allowed us to carry out a very important activity in a short time to protect the health of colleagues who, in turn, in this particularly difficult period, are committed daily to the community ".

The only department of the Air Force employed with specific projection logistics tasks, the 3rd flock was engaged from the early stages of the Covid-19 emergency in the context of the inter-agency device organized by the Civil Protection. In particular, specialized flock technicians contributed to the realization of a Point of Entry at the military airport of Pratica di Mare where our compatriots returning from China and Japan were welcomed last February. Subsequently, the 3rd wing gave support to the US humanitarian organization, Samaritan's Purse, in flight management and in the setting up of a hospital with 60 beds and 8 intensive care units temporarily granted to Italy and installed near theOspedale Maggiore of Cremona. In April, however, the staff of the 3rd flock took care of the reception, transportation and contributed alongside the civil protection of the Qatar firefighters and military, to the installation of the field hospital facilities of about five thousand square meters, donated from the Emirate to Italy, near the hospital of Schiavonia (PD).
