The activity had the primary purpose of comparing the two operational realities in the field of radio measurements that use the same console with the Unifis 3000 system of the Norwegian Special Mission.
The Commander of the 403 ° Escuadrón del Grupo de FFAA CECAF (Cartographic and Photographic Center) of the Spanish Air Force has expressed strong appreciation for the activity carried out by the AM staff composed of a complete crew with two inspectors, two operators and a crew technician of flight (TEV).
The surveys carried out with the Piaggio P180 over the skies of San Javier were used as a basis, taken as a model, for the real operational control and subsequently validated by a Spanish Inspector.
The P180 RM Airplanes carry out, within the 71 ° Flight Group of the 14 ° Stormo, a continuous activity of control of the national radio assistance (Radar, VOR, DME, ILS, TACAN etc.), to verify the validity of the transmitted radioelectric signals, the which provide the aircraft with the correct indications during take-off, landing and navigation.
The 14 ° Stormo is based at the Military Airport of Pratica di Mare. It hierarchically depends on the Command of the Forces for Mobility and Support in Rome, it carries out support missions in the field of in-flight refueling, radio-measurements and personal transport with KC767A, P180 Avanti aircraft, in full compliance with the planning and directives received by the Team Command Aerea, the High Command of the Italian Air Force which is responsible for training, preparation and use of the assets and personnel operating in the operational Departments throughout the national territory. It also guarantees the availability and transport service in support of the Civil Protection Department. The 14 ° Stormo has given its contribution by participating in the Unified Protector operations in Libya, ISAF in Afghanistan, Leonte in Lebanon and Lorica in Cyprus.
