Afghan special forces and security services, thanks to the support of Italian special forces units, the "intelligence" assets of the Regional Command West and the particularly active role of national intelligence, have conducted a series of operations that have led to the arrest of two important Taliban leaders, to the seizure of a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and explosives and to the identification of a car bomb, destroyed during the night by the "Mangusta" attack helicopters and the Amx fighters of the Italian contingent, intervened in the Bala district Bouluk, in the province of Farah, two hundred kilometers south of Herat.
Those arrested, known to the local police for leading dangerous terrorist cells operating in the Shindand area, were headed to Herat to rejoin other subversive groups in the area.
The decisive role was played by the specialists of the 28 "Pavia" Regiment who broadcast radio messages in local languages on the radio frequencies of the insurgents, rendering in vain any attempts at misinformation, aimed at discrediting the work of the Afghan security forces and generating in the population the perception of an imminent return to power of the Taliban.
The intervention of the AM-Xs, in particular, took place as part of a timely operation launched as soon as national intelligence sources were certain of the precise identification and exact location of a car set up to be used. such as VB-IED (Vehicle Borne - IED).
The mission was planned and conducted by the crews and personnel of the Italian Air Force in competition with other structures and members of the RC-W present at the Herat Base, in the span of very few hours at night.
The target, positioned along the bed of a river far from inhabited areas, was attacked and neutralized by our aircraft with the use of a precision bomb, with the subsequent passage of the Mangusta helicopters to fire.
