A training activity was carried out at the 72nd wing of Frosinone involving a C-130J transport aircraft of the 46th air brigade of Pisa to maintain tactical landing and take-off capabilities from semi-prepared runways.

The airport grounds, home to the helicopter flight school, proved to be particularly suitable for training as it is equipped with a semi-prepared grass runway about 1400 meters long.

The aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade, C-130J and C-27J, allow to guarantee the operational capacity to land even on short and semi-prepared runways, a peculiarity that can be exploited in environments such as operational theaters or in situations where it is necessary land to bring aid to airports partially damaged by natural disasters.

Maintaining this capacity is essential for the crews of the 46th Air Brigade, called to operate in those environmental contexts or in emergency situations in which it is necessary to reach remote locations and land on runways with marginal conditions.

To make the activity possible, the logistic command, through the 2nd engineering department, assessed the "landing" conditions of the runway through CBR measurements - California Bearing Ratio. Survey also carried out by qualified operators Combat Controller of the 17th "Incursori" flock for the evaluation of the compactness of any terrain in order to understand whether or not a military aircraft can land and take off safely. The Air Force Command gave the availability of the aircraft and the command of the Schools, through the 72nd wing, ensured the entire logistical support.
