13000 flight hours for the ISAF Predators

1.455 sorties for a total of 13.000 flight hours (equal to about a year and a half of continuous flight), are the numbers of the important operational goal added in these days by the "Predator B" (MQ-9A).

The remote pilot aircraft are part of the "Astore" flight group of the Joint Air Task Force, the national air force and inter-force component of the Italian contingent in Afghanistan commanded by pilot colonel Michele Morelli.

The "Predators", coming from the 32 ° flock of Amendola of the air force and from the 2007 deployed to the military airport of Herat, are employed with tasks of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance area in favor of the Regional Command West, the regional command on a base "Sassari" brigade responsible for the ISAF operation in the western area of ​​the country.

"A goal of absolute depth," said General Manlio Scopigno, commander of the Regional Command West, "the result of the precious technological content of the structures employed and the marked professionalism of the blue staff". Controlled by a remote pilot station, the aircraft, thanks to sophisticated onboard sensors, transmits images, videos and data "captured" in real time from altitudes higher than 13.000 meters and is able to fly continuously for more than 20 hours.
