When the bites hurt those who do it

The CIA will no longer use vaccination campaigns as a cover for intelligence operations, such as the one carried out by the agency in the 2011 and which ended with the killing of Osama bin Laden.

The confirmation comes from the white house. The agency has also decided that it will not use the genetic material obtained through these programs.

The most important program was performed by Dr. Shakil Afridi, who performed vaccinations against hepatitis in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad.

In reality, the health mission was a cover for the CIA to obtain DNA samples from children residing in the compound where Bin Laden was later killed during a Navy SEAL raid.

Afridi was sentenced by a Pakistani court to 33 years in prison for treason. The sentence was then annulled and Afridi will have to face a new trial.

Last August, CIA director John Brennan announced the "end of vaccination programs for intelligence purposes".

Finally, the Agency has ensured that the entire genetic archive acquired will no longer be used (except for the hunt for high-profile figures).
