Russian emergency minister dead

The Minister of Emergencies of the Russian Federation, Yevgenij Zinichev, died during an exercise. As stated in the press release from the ministry, "Zinichev died tragically in the fulfillment of his duty while participating in interdepartmental exercises for the protection of the Arctic area from emergencies, in an attempt to save a person's life".

On 28 July 2016, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin appointed him interim governor of the Kaliningrad oblast to replace Nikolai Tukanov. During his first press conference, which lasted just 49 seconds, he argued that his goal would be "to attract investment in Kaliningrad Oblast" and to stabilize the socio-economic situation ".

On 6 October of the same year he resigned.

On 18 May 2018, on the proposal of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, he was appointed Minister of Emergency Situations.

The Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Protection, Emergencies and Elimination of the Consequences of Natural Disasters, established in 1990, is a federal executive body responsible for the development and implementation of state policy, legal regulation, supervision and control in the field civil protection, the protection of the population and territories from natural and man-made emergencies, as well as fire safety.
