On the 22nd of September, Turkey launched the new class 214 submarine Piri Reis. It will enter service in 2020. Six copies are expected by 2027.

The Turkish administration has started an increase in the fleet and its own navy considers the 214 class as a flagship for its propulsion characteristics with fuel cells.

Piri Reis it is a diesel-electric submarine with an anaerobic propulsion which would make it extremely quiet. It should be able to stay submerged for 14 days and would be equipped with heavy torpedoes, anti-ship missiles and mines.

Erdogan in his speech during the ceremony stressed that, with politics in progress, Turkey seeks to restore rights that have been hindered.

He also added: "The activities we carry out in the eastern Mediterranean, Syria and Libya are taking place in this perspective".
