Russia is an enemy of NATO

03/05/14

The annexation of Crimea and the ongoing destabilization actions in eastern Ukraine have forced the US-led alliance to treat Russia as an enemy and no longer as a partner.

This is what the deputy secretary of NATO, Alexander Vershbow, from the Alliance command said yesterday.

Vershbow added that "the alliance is considering new measures to deter Russia from any future aggression against NATO member countries along the border, such as the Baltic states that were part of the Soviet Union".

Finally, Vershbow confirmed that NATO is seriously considering the possibility of deploying a large number of allied combat units in Eastern Europe, either permanently or on a rotational basis.
