Iraq: completed humanitarian aid transportation

The last C-130J of the Italian Air Force landed today in Erbil completing the airlift that since 16 August has carried, with 6 flights, 49 tons of water and foodstuffs, 200 field tents and 400 sleeping bags for the displaced and refugees threatened by the Islamic State who have found refuge in UN camps in northern Iraq.

The intervention, ordered by the ministers of defense and foreign affairs, saw the use of C-130J aircraft of the 46 ^ Pisa air brigade which, for this operation, were deployed to the Al Bateen (Force ), from which the Air Force has been supporting the Afghan theater for years, and where the aircraft loading operations took place with the material made available for the population hit by the crisis. Among the personnel employed also a core of the 16 ° Stormo air riflemen for the safety of the aircraft.

In the device prepared for the emergency there is also personnel of the Italian army with a platoon of aviation refueling paratroopers destined to prepare the cargoes in the event of an air-raid and a paratrooper platoon of the 187 ° regiment of the paratroop brigade "Folgore" with force protection tasks .
