Yahsat and Telespazio, a joint venture between Leonardo-Finnmeccanica (67%) and Thales (33%), have signed a five-year contract to supply satellite services integrated in the Ka band in Brazil.

The services will be offered through the Yahsat Al Yah 3 satellite, which will be launched during the first quarter of the 2017 and will guarantee coverage of more than 95% of the Brazilian population in more than five thousand municipalities.

In particular, Telespazio will provide its customers with satellite connectivity and IP solutions, using both Ka-band capacity on Al Yah 3 and its own ground infrastructures. The service will be offered through Brazilian gateways to maximize network performance and availability.

Amit Somani, Chief Strategy Officer of Yahsat, said: "Brazil is an interesting and fundamental market for Yahsat and we are pleased that the collaboration with an industry leader like Telespazio is part of our expansion in this country. The partnership will allow customers of Telespazio in Brazil to benefit from much better services at lower prices than previous solutions ".

Marzio Laurenti, Brazil Country Manager of Telespazio, stated: "The current offer of Telespazio Brasil to the corporate, institutional and telecommunications market is based on the satellite bands C, Ku and L. The Ka band Yahsat technology represents an important complement to our service portfolio and will enable us to meet the growing demand for more bandwidth at competitive prices ”.

Telespazio, one of the leading global operators in the field of space services, has a long experience in the telecommunications sector, and can also count on a portfolio of cutting-edge products and services. The company manages communication networks that integrate satellite and terrestrial solutions to respond effectively to the needs of businesses and institutions.

In Brazil, Leonardo-Finmeccanica has a nearly twenty-year presence in the space sector, through its subsidiary Telespazio Brasil, one of the leading satellite service providers on the Brazilian market. The partnership with Telespazio is another step forward for Yahsat to consolidate its strategy to enter the Brazilian market and help position the company as a provider of satellite access for Ka-band connectivity. After the launch of Al Yah 3, Yahsat will offer a range of services on the HTS Ka band, including high-speed satellite transmission at affordable prices for customers and small and medium-sized businesses, as well as high-frequency backup links for Internet service providers and telecommunications operators.
