Telespazio UK, a subsidiary of Telespazio - joint venture between Leonardo (67%) and Thales (33%) - has signed a contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) to continue the development of an automatic analysis tool capable of guaranteeing the quality of Earth observation satellite data.

The new tool will be able to use advanced machine learning techniques and automatically process data within a high-performance cloud computing environment. Once available, users - NewSpace companies and institutions - will be able to access it via an easy-to-use cloud platform.

In the last five years alone, thanks to the new institutional or corporate missions of the NewSpace, the mass of data coming from Earth Observation satellites has more than tenfolded. These are quantities of data in the order of petabytes, for which it is no longer possible to carry out quality checks only with human interaction or with traditional techniques. It has therefore become necessary to develop new automatic tools able to manage this enormous mass of data and at the same time guarantee the best possible result.

The new project, funded by ESA, builds on the experience already acquired by Telespazio UK in the field of quality control and, in addition to strengthening the company's leadership in the sector, has the ambition of being able to provide organizations and commercial institutions a easy to use service.
