Satisfaction of Confitarma for approval of Marebonus

(To Confitarma)

Confitarma expresses its satisfaction with the approval by the European Commission of the two public support measures aimed at promoting the movement of freight transport from the road to the railway and the sea (Ferrobonus and Marebonus).

The Marebonus is a measure that aims to reward users of intermodal maritime transport, especially road hauliers, through an incentive based on the road avoided in the national territory, forcing sea carriers to improve the quality of the services offered.

In particular, the Marebonus, by promoting the use of the maritime route over the road route, will contribute to a reduction in road congestion, pollution and other external costs.

Recalling that already in the 2007 Confitarma promoted the first Ecobonus, in a completely innovative context in the national context, and when there was still no reference legislative framework, Emanuele Grimaldi, president of the Italian Confederation of Shipowners, stated that "once again, thanks to the Confitarma Studies, a measure was set up to promote the cabotero sector "which in fact is the most sustainable mode of transport, whose positive environmental performance benefits the community. The conclusion of the procedure with the approval of Brussels will allow Italian maritime operators to strengthen and improve existing services and to start new ones as well".

"I take this opportunity - continued Grimaldi - to thank Minister Delrio, who had assured that by the end of the year the tiring procedure for the approval of this provision in the Community context would be concluded. We hope that it can be made operational in a short time".

"As I have repeatedly stated - concluded the president of Confitarma - armament and road transport share the same objectives of rebalancing and improving freight transport in Italy, being aware that both are actively part of the same logistics system, which must inevitably be based on the fundamental factors of timing, quality of service, safety and respect for the environment".
