The FREMM program for the Italian Navy is completed

Orizzonte Sistemi Navali SpA, a joint venture between Fincantieri (51%) and Finmeccanica (49%), and prime contractor for Italy under the Italian-French international program FREMM - Multi-Mission European Frigates, received today from OCCAR * the communication of the exercise of the option for the construction of the ninth and tenth units, to complete the supply to the Italian Navy of a series of 10 ships.

The value of the order for Orizzonte Sistemi Navali SpA amounts to 764 millions of euros. Even these units, whose delivery is expected after the 2020, will be characterized by a high degree of flexibility in use and will have the ability to operate in all tactical situations.

They will have a length of 144 meters, a width of 19,7 meters and a displacement at full load of about 6.700 tons. They can reach a speed higher than 27 nodes with a maximum capacity of transported personnel equal to 200 people.

The FREMM program ships will replace the frigates of the "Wolf" class and the "Maestral" class, built by Fincantieri in the 1970s and destined to be emitted by the fleet.
