The Bundeswehr has signed a framework contract worth 3,1 billion euros with Rheinmetall Electronics for the procurement of Infanterist der Zukunft – Erweitertes System (IdZ-ES), valid until 2030.
The program includes the digital upgrade of 68 existing platoon systems and the immediate purchase of 24 more, for a value of 417 million euros in the first quarter of 2025.
In total, the Bundeswehr will be able to acquire up to 368 platoon systems, each consisting of 34 individual units and advanced equipment, including IT components, optics, protection and tactical equipment. Rheinmetall, the main contractor, will coordinate more than 30 subcontractors.
The new IdZ-ES, based on the VJTF 2023 version, will be optimized for communication with vehicles Boxer e Puma and compatible with the D-LBO network (Digitization of Land-Based Operations), strengthening infantry connectivity and efficiency on the digital battlefield.
