The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has instructed Rheinmetall to deliver additional 35 mm ammunition for the anti-aircraft system Gepard. The new order comprises 180.000 HEI-T (High Explosive Incendiary with Tracer) projectiles and was booked in December 2024. The order value is in the high tens of millions of euros range and is financed by Germany. Already in February 2023, Rheinmetall had received an order to supply 300.000 projectiles for the Gepard to Ukraine.

The ordered ammunition can be used to effectively counter various air targets, such as drones. It will be produced at the Rheinmetall plant in Unterlüß. Due to the increased demand for 35 mm ammunition, the production line at the plant was rebuilt at great expense and in a very short time in spring 2023.

To date, the Federal Republic of Germany has delivered a total of 55 anti-aircraft vehicles. Gepard to Ukraine, previously decommissioned by the Bundeswehr. In Ukraine, these systems have proven themselves effective in air defense for over two years.

Rheinmetall also supplied the embattled country with several cutting-edge air defense systems, such as the Skynex, which uses programmable AHEAD controlled-detonation munitions. The company is one of the leading international manufacturers of complex air defense systems. Rheinmetall is a world leader in the production of gun-based air defense systems and the only supplier of a complete range of fire control systems, protected and integrated guided missile launchers. The portfolio is rounded off with air surveillance systems and radar technologies featuring search and detection radars.
