A European customer country has commissioned Rheinmetall to supply 35 mm AHEAD ammunition for the air defense system Skynex. The total order value is in the low range of a three-digit number in millions of euros. Several hundred thousand cartridges will be produced. The system Skynex strengthens the protection of the client country's armed forces against airborne threats.
This new order once again underlines Rheinmetall's leading technological position in the development and production of highly efficient munitions for air defense in Europe.
Skynex It is based on gun-based air defense and is therefore particularly suitable for short-range protection where guided weapons cannot be effective. Furthermore, the use of 35 mm AHEAD programmable ammunition, developed by Rheinmetall for this purpose, is significantly cheaper than comparable guided missile-based systems. Furthermore, it is not possible to influence or even deflect 35mm ammunition by electronic countermeasures after firing.
