(To Leonardo / Fincanteri / OSN)
05/08/24

As part of the OPV (Offshore Patrol Vessel) program of the Italian Navy (MM), Orizzonte Sistemi Navali (OSN), the joint venture participated by Fincantieri and Leonardo, with shares of 51% and 49% respectively, received from the Navy Military notification relating to the exercise of the option for the construction of the fourth new generation patrol vessel and related logistical support. The overall value of the operation is approximately 236 million euros.

In the following days, OSN will conclude the sub-supply contracts by notifying Fincantieri and Leonardo of the exercise of the options, which will have a value of approximately 163 million euros and approximately 70 million euros respectively.

The one with Fincantieri constitutes a transaction between related parties of greater importance. For Leonardo, the envisaged subcontracting contract represents a related party transaction of lesser importance by virtue of the value of the contract and the relevance indices applicable to the case in point. Both operations are defined in compliance with the relevant applicable legislation and benefit from the exclusion from the procedural regime envisaged for operations with subsidiaries (including jointly), pursuant to the current regulations and the respective procedures adopted.

The OPV program, which contributes to the modernization and renewal plan of the units of the Italian Navy, responds to the need to guarantee adequate presence and surveillance capabilities, maritime surveillance, control of merchant traffic, protection of communication lines and the exclusive economic zone, as well as protection activities from threats deriving from marine pollution, such as the spillage of toxic liquids.

With a length of approximately 95 metres, a displacement of 2.300 tonnes and the capacity to accommodate 97 crew members on board, the new patrol vessels, which will be built at Fincantieri's Integrated Shipyard of Riva Trigoso and Muggiano, will stand out for their concentration of technological solutions, as well as standards of excellence in terms of automation and maneuverability, which will make them suitable to operate in a wide range of tactical scenarios and atmospheric conditions.

Among the most innovative features is the naval cockpit, developed for the Multipurpose Offshore Patrol Boats (PPA) of the Navy on the basis of a truly revolutionary requirement: an integrated station, co-produced by Leonardo and Fincantieri NexTech, which allows the of the ship and air-naval operations by only two operators, the pilot and the co-pilot, who incorporated the figures of the officer of the watch on the bridge and the commander. From this station, located on the control bridge, it is in fact possible to manage both the machines, rudders and platform systems and some functions of the combat system.
