Two new turrets for naval and land defense enrich the respective technological families with advanced capabilities and performance. They are the LIONFISH® 30 and the HITFIST® 30 UL, presented by Leonardo for the first time at the Seafuture Show (La Spezia 5-8 June). The remote-controlled turrets integrate the Leonardo 30mm X-GUN, a new ITAR-free electrically powered weapon system developed in-house with innovative and patented technologies.

The LIONFISH® 30, conceived for naval use, completes the range of small LIONFISH® calibers which already includes the 12.7mm Ultralight, Inner Reloading and Top models and the 20mm 20 model. Compactness and light weight allow it to be installed on small platforms, protecting them from any type of asymmetric threat, including drones and helicopters, within complex scenarios with multiple targets, or multi-targets. This ability is enabled by sophisticated Artificial Intelligence algorithms that allow context analysis and optimization in the engagement of multiple simultaneous threats. Other distinctive features are the rate of fire, the high operating range and the ability to use highly efficient new-concept ammunition (air burst ammunition with preformed frontal fragmentation) which guarantee greater effectiveness against aerial threats, in particular those represented by mini and micro drones. The system shares the architecture, the remote control capability through a high resolution local console, the ease of use and maintenance with the other models in the family. Finally, the new turret is equipped with an electro-optical suite that allows 360° surveillance and tracking.

In the terrestrial domain, Leonardo presents the HITFIST® 30 UL (Unmanned Light) remote controlled turret. More compact and lighter than the other version of the same family, the system can be installed on vehicles with stringent weight requirements, such as amphibious ones. It is effective against all types of asymmetrical threats thanks to the use of air burst ammunition.

Leonardo's new defense systems have been designed and developed to respond to constantly evolving operational scenarios characterized by increasingly complex threats, especially from the air. This enriches a technological portfolio that includes, among others, the best seller 76/62 Super Rapido and the 127/64 Light Weight Vulcano for the naval domain and the 105/120 HITFACT® and 25/30 HITFIST® towers for the land sector , in service with dozens of countries around the world.
