Navantia and Leonardo join forces through a collaboration agreement to promote naval solutions in the Defense sector. The announcement was made during the FEINDEF International Defense Fair, held in Madrid from 12 to 14 May.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed last week by Navantia CEO Gonzalo Mateo and Leonardo Electronics Marketing and Sales Director Davide Fazio.
Under this agreement, the two companies intend to explore new business opportunities that will complement their respective product portfolios. While Navantia aims to meet the evolving needs of national and international markets with its range of solutions for naval units – including patrol vessels, aircraft carriers, corvettes and frigates – Leonardo can offer a complete suite of sensors and weapon systems perfectly adaptable to any type of unit and mission.
The collaboration between Navantia and Leonardo dates back several decades and has included solutions employed in the F110 frigates for theArmada Spanish, such as the Leonardo OTO 127/64 LW artillery systems, the fire control radar integrated into the Navantia fire control system and the AAHS (Automatic Ammunition Handling System). Leonardo's systems are extensively tested on Navantia ships, being already installed and operational on Spanish frigates and BAM units, equipped with OTO 76/62 mm guns and fire control radar.
Navantia platforms equipped with Leonardo systems are also used by navies of other countries.
The signing of this agreement symbolizes the joint commitment of the two companies to continue their cooperation to offer highly competitive and technologically advanced solutions, where the speed of response is a decisive factor in the customer's choices. In this sense, the agreement will generate flexibility and reactivity in commercial and strategic decisions by both companies.
