Modernization of the TAURUS for the Bundeswehr

(To MBDA)
20/12/24

The Bundeswehr and TAURUS Systems GmbH (a joint venture between MBDA and SAAB) have signed a contract for the maintenance and modernization of the TAURUS stand-off weapon system. The measures will ensure the weapon's operational readiness until at least 2045.

A central element of the contract is the complete modernization of the TAURUS cruise missiles used by the German Armed Forces. In addition to maintenance, the system will undergo technological upgrades to meet the increasing demands that modern weapon systems have to meet.

The Bundeswehr is strengthening its capability for stand-off weapons with the measures commissioned. The TAURUS is a key element of the German Air Force and NATO. The air-to-ground missile enables the German Air Force to overcome enemy air defense systems from a safe distance, minimizing the risk to pilots and platforms. With a range of over 500 kilometers and high precision, the TAURUS makes an important contribution to deterrence and defense of both the national and allied forces.
