Leonardo – Finmeccanica has been awarded a contract in China with the National Instruments Import and Export Corporation (Instrimpex), a company active in the import and export of technological equipment, for four air traffic control radars.

With this acquisition, Leonardo further strengthens its position as a provider of radar for civilian air traffic control in the country, where it has been operating for over thirty years. The over 60 ATC (Air Traffic Control) devices installed in the area ensure, in fact, the radar coverage of almost all the main routes of the central and eastern regions.

The four primary radars ATCR-33S NG in S-band - which will be used both in the starting and landing phases and for the surveillance of the extended terminal area - belong to a new generation of systems based on communication, navigation and surveillance technologies. state of art. It is a more robust and sophisticated version of the previous ATCR-33S ENHs already installed all over the world, with greater transmission power in all weather conditions thanks to the gallium nitride technology, which allows to considerably increase reliability and performance, expanding the coverage range. Reduced space and lower maintenance costs are other distinctive features of this new type of system.

Leonardo's over fifty-year experience in designing and developing radar technology applied to air traffic management, with operating systems in over 150 countries, makes Leonardo a world leader in the sector.

In addition to being present in the ATC area, Leonardo has sold about 130 various types of helicopters to China in order to carry out various tasks including passenger transport, public order, rescue, civil protection, fire prevention and environmental monitoring.
