Leonardo-Finmeccanica has won the most prestigious Italian award dedicated to innovation made in Italy. The National Award for Innovation was awarded during a ceremony at the Palazzo del Quirinale, in the presence of the President of the Republic. Leonardo is once again the protagonist of innovation thanks to a project that makes it possible to avoid the risk of collisions in flight between piloted and remote pilot aircraft and guarantee the safety of civil airspace.

Established by the Italian Government at the National Foundation for Technological Innovation, COTEC, the recognition, better known as Award of Prizes, aims to enhance and support the best innovative and creative skills expressed in many sectors of activity, from industry to design, from university to research and services.

"It is an important recognition - emphasizes Mauro Moretti, CEO and General Manager of Leonardo - which rewards a project in a segment of activity, relating to remote piloted aircraft, which is rapidly expanding, as well as being a very topical issue worldwide. That of the full safety of the drones is an indispensable requisite to allow its integration in the air space and for the development of a sector able to offer important industrial and technological development opportunities to our country. Remote piloted aircraft represent the new business frontier of the aerospace and defense industry and Leonardo is one of the few companies in the world to have a wide range of technologies in this area".
