(To Leonardo-Finmeccanica)
22/11/16

The navigation and maritime support center built by Leonardo-Finmeccanica was inaugurated last Saturday in Izmit, Turkey. Present at the ceremony were Turkish Ministers of Defense, Fikri Isik, and Transport, Ahmet Arslan. The system will allow monitoring of the area's maritime traffic and will ensure effective control of fishing activities.

The solution is composed of two subsystems: the Regional Vessel Traffic Services System (RVTSS) which monitors the gulfs of Izmit, Izmir, Iskenderun and Mersin, characterized by intense ship traffic of goods and people; the Vessel Traffic Management Center (VTMC) installed in Ankara, thanks to which it is possible to have an integrated and complete picture of the traffic at sea.

The maritime traffic control system (Vessel Traffic Management System - VTMS) by Leonardo is the most technologically advanced solution available on the market today. It guarantees the safety of the coasts and maritime borders of large geographical areas and the monitoring of the maritime environment and supports the rescue and research operations at sea. The VTMS is available in fixed and mobile versions and is able to ensure the coverage and management of large areas, such as the Mediterranean basin, which, with over 7000 kilometers of monitored costs, is the largest application of the system.
