Leonardo: contract of approximately 80 mln USD for protection systems for US Army and Marines

Leonardo, through the US subsidiary Leonardo DRS, has been awarded a new contract worth about 80 million US dollars which provides an additional supply, for the Army and the Corps of the US Marine Corps, of TROPHY systems for the active protection of tanks Abrams Books. The contract brings the total funded value of the program to more than 200 million US dollars and will allow additional brigades to be equipped with the TROPHY systems.

The TROPHY system, developed by Leonardo DRS in collaboration with the Israeli technological partner Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, provides effective protection against threats made up of rockets and anti-tank missiles, while at the same time allowing to locate and signal the origin of hostile fire for immediate reaction.

TROPHY greatly improves the survival capacity of the crew and the vehicle. The system uses an active electronic scanning radar to detect threats in even extreme operating conditions, providing the cart with continuous 360 degree protection. In addition, an on-board computer is able to record and classify the detected threat.
