Leonardo - global leader in the aerospace and security sector -, through its subsidiary Leonardo International, and Codemar, Companhia de Desenvolvimento de Maricá, announce the establishment of a joint venture called Leonardo & Codemar SA (49% Codemar, 51% Leonardo), established under Brazilian law. The goal of the new company is to promote best practices in the development and implementation of projects for urban safety and resilience, as well as new helicopter infrastructure and services that will stimulate the growth of the local economy and industries. Through the implementation of a series of innovative and stimulating projects, Maricá will be the "living laboratory" for all the most advanced technological applications, contributing to the safety and improvement of the quality of life of citizens, in a context of sustainable development of the Municipality.

Starting today, Leonardo & Codemar will work on projects based on Leonardo's product and solution portfolio and on Codemar's knowledge of the needs related to the territory and local stakeholders. This will gradually lead the company to become a reference partner of the Municipality of Maricá and to respond with its projects to the requirements related to technologies and services within its business perimeter. The status of reference partner of the Municipality of Maricá will allow Leonardo & Codemar to participate in projects in other regions of Latin America in the future.

"We are excited about these further developments of Leonardo's presence in Brazil, which confirm that an open and transparent dialogue between different organizations can open up to new opportunities, so far unexplored," said Leonardo CEO Alessandro Profumo, who added: "The new joint venture will focus on the provision of systems and services for the security, resilience and protection of citizens and territories and will demonstrate that satellite-based technologies, the cyber and digital world, aeronautics with and without pilot can contribute to development in the country. "

Leonardo and Codemar, will pool financial and technological resources with the aim of making the most of each other's skills and providing innovative products and services to the Municipality of Maricá. Thanks to its strategic position, Maricá is in fact destined to become one of the main logistical bases for Oil & Gas operations throughout Brazil, with enormous development potential for related activities (financial, high-tech and services) that need better infrastructure. Similarly, both residential and tourist development, facilitated by the proximity to Rio de Janeiro, will be promoted in respect of the country's natural beauties, protecting its still uncontaminated territories.
