The Polish Ministry of Defense has selected the Alenia Aermacchi M-346 training aircraft, a Finmeccanica company, and its training system for the training of Polish Air Force pilots.

The tender - which has a total value of approximately 280 million euros, including training and technical and logistical support - relates to the acquisition of 8 M-346s plus 4 as an option, as well as simulators and training aids.

The Italian aircraft was the winner at the end of a race in which the main international competitors participated.

The Alenia Aermacchi M-346 is the most advanced training aircraft available on the market and is the only one in the world designed specifically to train pilots destined for the latest generation of high performance military aircraft.

The M-346 has now reached an order portfolio of 48 aircraft, acquired by the Italian Air Force and the governments of Singapore and Israel.

The contract is expected to be signed early in the 2014.
